More information

Day 1 to 2 Edinburgh.
Edinburgh

Start your journey around Scotland by arriving into Scotland's historic capital city - Edinburgh. Few cities in the world can boast the charm and history that Edinbugh provides in abundance - from the iconic Castle perched atop castle rock, to the winding streets of the old town seeped in centuries of gritty history and folklore. This truly is a city that stirs the imagination, and delights the senses. With your two days in Edinburgh, you will have ample time to explore all the city has to offer - top tips would be to take in the view of the city from Calton Hill (an easier walk than Arthurs Seat), to listen out for the one o clock gun (the cannon that fires at 1pm daily), and to sample some of the incredible Scottish food in one of the many quality restaurants in the city.

Stay at Aparthotel Adagio Edinburgh Royal Mile

Day 3 Pitlochry.
Pitlochry

Head out of Edinburgh, and up towards the highlands before stopping off in Pitlochry. Set in a stunning estate, this is the perfect place to unwind and explore local gems like the nearby Blair Castle and the famous Edradour Distillery, one of Scotland's smallest whisky producers. The small town of Pitlochry is a charming place to wander and explore, and as the gateway to the Cairngorms, you will start to see the incredible scenery and nature that the Scottish highlands have to offer.

Stay at The Atholl Palace, Pitlochry

Day 4 to 5 Inverness.
Inverness

Drive through the scenic Cairngorms until you arrive in Inverness. The capital of the Scottish higlands, Inverness is a great base for exploring some of the key sights of the highlands. For those interested in history, the battlefields of Culloden are a short drive away - the site which brought the end of the Jacobite uprising in the 18th century. The most famous sight near Inverness however is Loch Ness - the largest body of water (by volume) in the United Kingdom, containing nearly double the water of all the lakes in England and Wales combined. Loch Ness is most famous for the enduring legend of the Loch Ness Monster (Nessie), so perhaps you'll be lucky on your drive by and spot this Scottish icon.

Stay at Holiday Inn Express Inverness

Days 6 to 7 Isle of Skye.
Isle Of Skye

After a few days in the highlands, you'll head west to one of Scotland's main islands - the Isle of Skye. On the way there, make sure you stop and take in the sight of Eilean Donan castle which provides a great backdrop for a photo. With it's rugged landscape, Skye is an ideal place for scenic walks and exploration. See the Old Man of Storr, the Fairy Pools, and the colourful buildings of Portree in your two days in Skye.

Stay at Skeabost Harbour Hotel

Day 8 Fort William.
Fort William Glenfinnan Viaduct

After leaving Skye, head down to Fort William for the evening. Near Fort William are some more iconic sights - including Ben Nevis (the highest mountain in the UK), and the Glenfinnan Viaduct (famous for the Harry Potter scene where the Hogwarts Express passes over the bridge.)

Stay at The Garrison Fort William

Days 9 to 10 Glasgow.
University of Glasgow

Finish your trip around Scotland with a two night stay in Scotland's largest city. The historic second city of the UK, Glasgow is a thriving city renowned for its friendly reputation, and it's emerging food scene. Whilst in Glasgow, explore the bustling west end - with the beautiful University of Glasgow, the bars and restaurants of Ashton Lane, and the impressive Kelvingrove Museum. In the city centre, enjoy the bars and restaurants in Merchant City, and keep an eye out for the Duke of Wellington statue in front of the Museum of Modern Art. One of Glasgow's most enduring icons, the Duke of Wellington is famous for always having a traffic cone on his head - to the point that, when the council removes the cone, someone will always come along and put one back on his head. If you haven't already sampled the great Scottish produce, we would recommend booking a final night dinner at The Bothy, or Mharsanta, and giving a try to some of the classic dishes - such as Haggis, or Cullen Skink.

Stay at Abode Glasgow.
