Cabin Classes
Economy
Enjoy China Eastern’s Economy Class to Shanghai from both Sydney and Melbourne. The airline’s new fleet of Airbus A-330 aircraft are fitted with modern slim line seats for ample leg room and comfort. Each seat is equipped with an adjustable headrest, 5.5 inches of recline, a personal seat back video screen for on-demand entertainment and power points to recharge personal electronic devices.
Entertainment
An almost 11 inch wide personal video screen is available at each seat. This is one of the largest economy class screens in the industry where guests are able to enjoy hundreds of video and entertainment options from around the world. In addition to popular movies and TV shows, the entertainment system also features music, games and even eleven different language courses. If that’s not enough, passengers can use the recharge ports for their laptops or tablets and watch or listen to their own downloaded programming.
Food and Beverage
China Eastern serves a complimentary hot meal and beverages on international flights. The Economy Class menu consists of a choice of Asian and western mains which are accompanied with a starter or salad and dessert. A selection of international beers, wines and spirits are also available.
Business
Enjoy the comforts of Business Class in an extra wide seat that reclines to a fully flat, 169 degree position. The seating configuration in this private cabin offers a 2x2x2 layout without any middle seats. Enhanced services both on the ground and in the air make for a relaxing journey. Guests will have access to priority check-in and boarding, a restaurant style meal and beverage service and added privacy.
Entertainment
Select from a wide range of movies and other programming with the convenience of the remote control found at each seat. A large screen TV can be found at each seat where on-demand entertainment can be played, paused and stopped at leisure. There are also power points to recharge personal electronic devices such as laptops and tablets.
Food and Beverage
Business Class service is known for its excellent food and variety of meal choices. Guests are treated to a fine dining experience in-flight where international favourites are served in courses. Meals are served on real china and come with cutlery and glassware.
Baggage
Carry-On
Each guest is allowed one piece of carry-on baggage with different weight limitations depending on class flown. Economy Class passengers are permitted up to 7kg (15lbs) while Business Class guests are allowed up to 10kg (22lbs). A garment bag or other small bag no greater than 20cm thick is also allowed for Business Class guests.
Checked
The checked luggage allowance depends on the destination and class flown.
All destinations except North and South America:
- Economy – While the preferred limit is two, there is no restriction on the number of bags checked provided the total weight of all bags does not exceed 20kg ( 44lbs). The maximum linear dimensions of bags is 157cm (62 inches)

Business - multiple bags are permitted with a maximum total weight of 30kg (66lbs). The maximum dimensions of checked bags are 147cm (58 inches) when adding length+width+height.
Flights to North and South America:
Guests in both Business and Economy Class are given an allowance of two pieces of luggage. The maximum weight of each piece is 32kg (70lbs).
Bulky Items
China Eastern does permit some sporting items to be checked as part of the free checked baggage allowance. Bulky or oversized items such as surfboards and bicycles will be charged a fixed fee. Oversize baggage is any item with linear measurements between 158cm and 203cm. Items larger than this will not be accepted for check-in and must be shipped by freight.
Infant Baggage
Infants are offered one checked bag with the same size and weight restrictions as the accompanying adult. Additionally, a folding pram/stroller may be checked free of charge.
Restricted or Dangerous Goods
Dangerous items such as flammable materials, gasses and liquids, explosives, petrol powered machinery, toxins, corrosives, poisons and other harmful products are not allowed in checked or carry-on luggage. Any item deemed hazardous will not be allowed to travel.
Check-in
Friendly counter staff will check you in
Checking in for a China Eastern international flight must be done at the airline’s airport ticket counter. Check-in counters open 2 ½ hours before departure and close 45 minutes prior.
Passport and visa information will be checked at time of bag drop off and seat selection. Online check-in is only available for China domestic flights.
Lounges
Lounge Clubs for Elite Flyers
First and Business Class guests, along with Eastern Miles elite Silver and Gold members have access to China Eastern’s Elite Club Lounges in Shanghai and Beijing as well as hundreds of Skyteam and other airline alliance member lounges around the world.
Qantas is an alliance member and qualifying guests can access the lounges in Sydney and Melbourne.
Frequent Flyer
Join the Eastern Miles high club
The Eastern Miles frequent flyer program is free to join. Members can earn miles known as Elite Points for flights on China Eastern, Skyteam flights and other alliance member flights including those on Qantas, Japan Air Lines, Etihad and WestJet.
There are two elite status levels, Silver and Gold, each of which offer greater benefits and recognition. Silver status is achieved at 100,000 Elite Points and Gold at 180,000. Just some of the benefits include:
Silver
Priority seat reservations 72 hours before departure, priority waitlist for upgrades, access to business class lounges, an extra baggage allowance, priority check-in and priority baggage handling.
Gold
Priority seat reservations 48 hours before departure, first class lounge access, an even more generous extra baggage allowance, usage of First Class check in lanes and priority baggage handling with First Class tags.
