Christchurch to Bali
Bali’s not all 5-star resorts and day spas, Indonesia’s island gem serves up some pretty incredible experiences for the adventure junkie. Thanks to the island’s small size, you don’t have to compromise on any experiences either. Cycle through the rice paddies in the morning, before diving beneath the surface on a snorkelling trip in the afternoon.
Why choose a Bali adventure
- Pristine, unspoiled natural settings
- Activities for the whole family to enjoy
- Unique experiences
- Affordable thrills
- Great weather year-round
On dry land
Bali’s awe-inspiring landscape is blessed with lush, green undulating hills, jagged mountain peaks and a peppering of ancient temples and artistic retreats. While Bali may be the go-to destination when it comes to drop and flop holidays, there’s a world of adventures to be had on dry land.
Set off on foot through Taro, one of Bali’s oldest Hindu villages, passing the Bamboo Forest and hectares of vibrant green rice paddies, or see the sights on two wheels with a cycling tour through Ubud villages. You could also combine these activities with a volcano tour, safari or night-time wildlife experience.
Make a splash
The islands’ natural beauty also extends to its shores, where dazzling turquoise water laps against white and black sand beaches. Dip your toes into a breathtaking underwater world with a spot of snorkelling off Nusa Lembongan or scuba diving excursion to Tulamben. Bali is also a haven for surfers – barrels are best at Canggu and off the Bukit Peninsula.
There are still plenty of water-based adventures to be found inland. Grab some oars and take to the swirling, crashing Ayung River for some white-water rafting, or revel in waterslide-like thrills on a canyoning journey along the River Siap and through hidden crevices of Kerta village.
Family-friendly action
There’s no reason to leave the family behind. If you and the kids have a penchant for heart racing action, Bali is the perfect place for young and old. Along with all the usual water-based activities on offer, why not get the adrenalin pumping on one of Waterbom Bali’s thrilling waterslides?
By donning a specially-designed helmet, even non-divers and kids can discover the ocean floor delights on a unique Sea Walk experience. Open-ocean kayaking trips are another popular water-based option, while Bali’s dense jungles offer a wealth of family-friendly activities, including quad bike tours and paintball arenas.
